Pets in the Home

  • policy

Avenue Home Care recognizes the need to protect caregivers in the course of their duties and provides for individual differences and needs as it relates to pets and/or animals in the client’s home or on their property.

  • purpose

 1. To ensure that caregivers are not assigned to clients with pets that the caregiver is either allergic to or has a fear of.

2. To establish a routine for inquiring about the presence of pets in the home on the initial assessment visit to the home.

3. To establish guidelines for pets in the home that may pose a threat to the assigned caregiver.

  • procedure

1. All new clients will be assessed for the presence of pets in the home or on the property.

2. The pets present in the home or on the property will be identified as to type (i.e., cat, dog, etc.).

3. Caregivers with identified allergies or fear of the identified pets will not be assigned to the client.

4. Arrangements are made in advance for the containment of any pets that are deemed a potential threat to the caregiver(s) assigned to care for the client.

5. Clients who do not contain pets that are deemed a threat to the caregivers will be notified that care will not be provided until the pet is routinely contained.
